The predecessor of the School of Electrical Engineering was the Electrical Department and the Electrical Engineering Teaching and Research Section established in 1980. In June 2004, the School of Electrical Engineering was officially established. With over 40 years of historical inheritance, the college has thoroughly implemented the Party's educational policy in the new era, taking the cultivation of well-rounded socialist builders and successors in terms of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor as its fundamental task. It adheres to the central position of talent cultivation and continuously highlights the characteristics of cultivating high-quality, compound engineering talents.
The college currently offers four undergraduate programs, namely Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, and Robotics Engineering. Among them, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation is a national first-class major construction point and passed the China Engineering Education Professional Accreditation in 2020. The Automation major passed the professional accreditation of engineering Education in China in 2022. Automation and Electrical Engineering and Its Automation are first-class major construction points in Henan Province. In 2021, it was approved as a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point in Control Science and Engineering, which is a first-level key discipline in Henan Province. It has a first-level master's degree authorization point in Control Science and Engineering and a professional degree authorization point in Electronic Information (Control Engineering). At present, there are over 2,000 undergraduate students and more than 100 postgraduate students on campus. A multi-level talent cultivation pattern covering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs has been formed, with undergraduate education as the foundation. It provides talent support for local economic and industrial development in terms of talent cultivation, scientific research and social services.

It has many provincial first-class courses such as "Principles of Automatic Control", "Electrical Control and PLC", "Power Electronics Technology", "Digital Electronic Technology", "Measurement and Control Circuit", and "Circuit".
The college has always attached great importance to giving full play to the leading role of discipline construction in professional development, emphasizing the cross-integration among disciplines, and focusing on the construction of high-level scientific and technological platforms and teams. There are 10 R&D teams, including "Intelligent Sensing and Photoelectric Detection", "Precision Measurement and Control and Intelligent Systems", "Navigation Guidance and Intelligent Perception", "Fault Diagnosis and Intelligent Unmanned Systems", "Intelligent Equipment and Control Engineering for Grain and Oil Processing", "Intelligent Robots", "Smart Operation and Maintenance of Clean Energy Equipment", "Advanced Control Theory", "Power Electronics and Motor Control", and "Electrical Engineering Theory and New Technologies".
The college actively serves the demands of national and local economic construction and has achieved a number of outstanding results. In the past five years, he/she has successively presided over and undertaken 49 national and provincial-level scientific research projects, including the National High-tech Research and Development Program (863 Program), the National Science and Technology Support Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talent Program, the Henan Province Outstanding Talent Innovation Fund, and the Henan Province Outstanding Youth Fund. Among them, there are 12 national-level projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, 31 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 6 other projects. The research funds received exceed 20 million yuan. A total of 228 academic papers have been published in domestic and foreign periodicals, among which more than 100 have been indexed by SCI and EI. The college currently has nearly 30 million yuan worth of undergraduate teaching and experimental equipment, with an average annual new investment of 3 million yuan. At present, it has teaching laboratories such as the Electrical and Electronic Basic Experiment Center, Professional Teaching Laboratories, Professional Open Laboratories, Undergraduate Practical Innovation Center, and Undergraduate Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, as well as open platforms for innovation training. There are 23 teaching laboratories and training bases equipped with various advanced teaching and research instruments and equipment. It includes laboratories such as circuits, motors, analog circuits, digital circuits, single-chip microcomputers and microcomputer principles, comprehensive electrical and electronic engineering, embedded systems, PLCS, electronic processes, sensor technology, computer control, process control, motion control, power electronics technology, electrical control, comprehensive power supply and distribution, comprehensive automation of power systems, and relay protection of power systems. In recent years, we have established multiple university-enterprise joint laboratories in collaboration with companies such as Freescale of the United States, Microchip of the United States, B&R of Austria, XJ Group Instrument Company, Shengmao Optoelectronics, and Henan Tianqing. While constantly strengthening the construction of undergraduate teaching laboratories, efforts are made to build a collaborative education model that combines industry, academia and research, so that talent cultivation can meet the needs of social development. We have established long-term cooperative relationships with institutions such as Henan Institute of Metrology, XJ Group, Hanwei Technology, Xintian Technology, and Rixin. It has undertaken more than ten school-enterprise collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education and gradually established an open education system that combines in-class and out-of-class activities.

An outstanding teaching staff is the founder and guiding light of the college's development. The college attaches great importance to the cultivation of teachers' theoretical teaching, practical teaching and scientific research capabilities. It has gradually established and improved the management, operation and sound development mechanism of grassroots teaching organizations, and forged an outstanding team of teachers with noble professional ethics, excellent teaching style and dedication to their students. At present, there are over 100 full-time teachers, among whom there are more than 50 professors and associate professors, over 10 senior laboratory technicians and senior engineers, and more than 40 doctors. The college has always adhered to taking "moral education and talent cultivation" as its fundamental task and integrated it into the entire process of education and teaching. Adhere to the principle of all-staff education, all-process education and all-round education. We carry out a variety of hands-on practical education. We have specially set up an open college student innovation center and a B&R Engineering training Center. All college students on campus can use their spare time to receive practical training and participate in various national subject competitions. Students from our college have continuously participated in various competitions such as the National Virtual Instrument Competition, the National College Students' Electronic Design Contest, the World Robot Fighting Competition, the "Freescale" National College Students' Intelligent Car Invitational Competition, the Renesas Super MCU Electronic Model Car Competition, the Siemens Cup National College Students' Control Simulation Challenge, and the B&R Academic Alliance Competition, and have won numerous awards. Graduates have a solid foundation of basic knowledge and strong engineering capabilities. Many of them have taken on important roles in technical research and development, enterprise management and other positions, and have received widespread praise from employers and wide recognition from society. In the past three years, the average annual employment rate of the college has been above 98%, and among the employers of students, high-tech enterprises account for about 65%. The postgraduate entrance examination rate of the college has been increasing year by year in recent years, with the admission rate being around 30%.
